Technically, each image is built from macro stack photography, a process that compresses dozens of individually focused exposures into a single frame of extraordinary depth and clarity, every vein, petal edge and desiccated fold rendered with forensic precision. That precision is then deliberately disrupted: painterly intervention is layered into the photographic surface, pulling the work away from the conventions of traditional flora photography and into something closer to abstraction. The result sits in the space between botanical record and painted infusion, and refuses to settle into either.
As the series has grown, so has its formal ambition, later works push further into invention, treating blooms as the raw material for increasingly complex visual constructions avoiding a fixed subject to be documented. Taken together, the series offers a sustained, evolving inquiry into what it means to witness beauty and its unravelling at once, an inquiry that continues to develop with each new body of work Newton produces.
